The blue skies of Southern Utah are unparalleled. The scenic vistas surrounding our area can be seen from miles away on a clear day. The clean air we breathe and the crisp blue skies are qualities of life in Southern Utah that can’t be taken for granted. Citizens for Dixie’s Future is committed to maintaining clean air in Washington County. The pressures of growth will ultimately affect the quality of the air we breathe, it is up to all of us to take a proactive approach in maintaining our clean air.
Citizens for Dixie’s Future is a member of the
Southern Utah Air Quality Task Force, this group is a collaborative effort of cities, the health department, industry, business and citizens. We are working to raise funds to purchase air quality monitors for our area. Accurate monitoring and assessment of our current air quality is an imperative step in our efforts to maintain clean air in Southern Utah.
Coal energy has been a recurring threat to Southern Utah’s air quality. In 2009 a coal fired plant was proposed just 45 minutes from St. George. Citizens for Dixie’s Future supporters rallied together and successfully stopped this proposed plant. Residents presented a clear strong voice against coal power. Currently CDF is working towards early retirement of Reid Gardner Generating Station on the Moapa Paiute Reservation. This dirty coal plant contributes to regional haze in Zion National Park, and may contribute to elevated ozone levels in our area. Learn more about Reid Gardner and what you can do
