Follow money to see real land bill purpose
There is a serious issue confronting
the residents of Washington
County. It's the land use
bill. Concocted by the Washington County Commission led by
Mr. Gardner, Sen. Bennett, Rep. Matheson and a select few others, and now
before Congress without a single "real" public hearing. He
(Gardner) is on record in The Spectrum stating, "if
you support the bill write us and say so, but if not, we do not want to hear
from you." That is not inviting of public comment, it is an expression of
arrogance.
So, we now have
about 15 men who have put this bill together and are now acting in concert to
push it down our throats. Mr. Alder, of Vision Dixie, who also spoke at the meeting is right. He said, "We want to see the process
of planning for growth come home to the people most affected by that
growth," and not become "Planning Dixie" for a fait accompli.
Bottom line,
when you strip away all the rhetoric about vision, growth and conservation,
this bill is really about money. Money for the pipeline project, money for the
well connected, and money for whatever the power brokers will. Follow the
money!
