What's wrong with this picture? On a daily basis I try to conserve energy and water in every way that I can in my
home and yard. When I leave my home for a trip, I turn off all the power strips, pull the plug on any adapters, turn
down my furnace or up the temperature on my air conditioner.
Now, here's the problem. I had to go to Las Vegas for a trip that required me to leave early the next morning. One
billboard - that's just one of hundreds - that was lit up would give the city of Hurricane enough electricity for a least a
week. The Las Vegas shuttle driver boasted about six new casinos that were being built with a need for 1 million
workers. He laughed about the number of toilets that would flush, the number of linens that would be washed and
the huge amount of water and electricity that would be needed.
Someone asked where would all that electricity and water come from? We know where it will come from. Us! What
happened to a green environment? What happened to conservation of water and electricity? Let them put up with a
new power plant in their backyard. Don't saddle us with the pollution.
