Stop destroying our way of life!

Dear [Decision Maker],

I am writing to ask you not to invest in expensive and risky coal projects being developed by Sithe Global and your Blackstone Group. I urge you to think of my family's health and our communities in Nevada, Utah, New Mexico and Pennsylvania. Invest in clean, renewable energy that will bring us much needed long-term green jobs, instead of dirty coal power.

The Toquop Energy Station, Desert Rock Power Station, and the River Hill Power Company projects being developed by your company will pollute our pristine air, contaminate our waterways with toxic mercury, and negatively impact our healthy way of life. We do not want or need additional coal plants that will contribute hundreds of millions of tons of global warming pollution to our atmosphere, particularly when renewable energy technologies and developments are increasing at breakneck speeds. In 2008 alone, over 10,000 megawatts of wind, solar and geothermal were installed compared to less than 1,500 MWs of new coal. This is a telling factor on where the energy markets are going in the years ahead.

The federal government is committed to regulating global warming pollution. In response, municipalities and utilities across the country are integrating more energy efficiency and renewable energy into their portfolios as a way insulate their ratepayers from volatile cost increases from a heavy reliance on coal. As a result, new coal plants are a bad investment and becoming riskier every day. They are last century's outdated technology, not fit for the future or a forward-looking company like the Blackstone Group.

You have the ability to stop your investments in development of coal power and invest in clean, renewable energy in our states. Our communities will not support your use of coal, and we will do everything in our power to ensure Sithe Global's dirty developments are stopped. We will, however, support your financing of clean renewable energy in our states!

Sincerely,
